In order to be successful and complete high school, a key is the
freshman year. JDHS realizes this and is making an effort to address
freshman failures. During the first quarter of the 2006-2007 school
year, 69 freshman had two or more Fs. Of these 69, 43 have three or
more Fs. These students have been identified and put into a “freshman
intervention” program that includes a conference with the counselor,
parents, administration, teachers, and the student. A contract is
signed which may include progress reports, make-ups, extra help after
school, study hall, etc. The breakdown of these struggling freshmen is
as follows:
