The national No Child Left Behind legislation requires that school districts report the numbers of students who are “proficient or advanced” each year in language arts and math. State assessments are given to determine proficiency, and this then qualifies them for AYP. The following is for JDHS for the 2005-2006 school year.

Proficient/Advanced in Language Arts 77% of all students
  52% of Alaska Natives
  48% of Free/Reduced Lunch
  80% Asian/Pacific Islander
  87% Caucasian

Proficient/Advanced in Math 65% of all students
  40% of Alaska Natives
  30% of Free/Reduced Lunch
  70% Asian/Pacific Islander
  74% Caucasian
