Feedback on Proposals:  Middle School Students

What model or models do you have an interest in?

One School/Two Campuses best—not separated.  Kids will mingle with kids from other schools.  Lower initiation, less rivalry.

Like that all  Juneau kids your age go together.

Would like to go to school with older kids.

Life—need to go through the food chain, so we need experiences with older kids.

Pluses and minuses to being with older students.

Like Three Facilities/Multiple Choices—be with kids who want to learn the same things as you.

Like two comprehensive schools.

Think 9/10 should have the new school—leave 11/12 at JDHS.  They’ve already been at the school.

I like 9/10-11/12, but I don’t like always being only with young kids.

How is the gym going to be?

Think should have multiple choices put into two campuses.

Problem with  9/10-11/12 is I have friends at different grades.

Concerned with closed campus.

11/12 would be like a half time school because seniors don’t take many classes.

Like 9/10-11/12 split.

Like two comprehensive reformed schools—not so complicated.

Like two reformed comprehensive schools—greater opportunities for all.  Don’t like the idea of splitting up the grades.

Don’t like having schools split—like team idea, but not different small schools.

Want open campus.

Two campuses would be difficult for kids who take advanced courses.

Two campuses good idea for sports, but don’t like idea of having to move schools at 11th grade.

Like two reformed comprehensive—more competition for sports.

Like two reformed comprehensive schools but only one sports team—more rivalry.

One team—better chance to go to state.

Competition of two reformed comprehensive schools not a good idea.  We should stay as one team—not split up.  With only one team, the best kids play and we have a better chance to win.

Don’t like 9/10-11/12 split—can’t be with friends at other levels.  Like the idea of two teams.

Two reformed—choices might create problems.

Like Academic and Career Academies.

Like two comprehensive—more kids participating in sports.

Keep sports team as is—don’t go to multiple teams.

We have enough  people here to fill both teams and give more opportunity.

Like two reformed comprehensive schools, but one sports team.

If two schools had one team, could choose best of best from both.

One school/two campuses—like being in the same age group.

9/10-11/12 question…Would they be the same?

Want two sports teams—more chances

Like 9-12.  Don’t split the grades.

Like idea of going to the closest school.

If I have friends in other school (small schools), do we ever come together for social activities?

Concerned with transportation and travel time.

I think both schools should be the same, 9-12, because you get to know all grades.

I do want schools to be kind of the same, but not exactly the same.  Play with location and environment and take advantage of this  (outside, trails, etc.)

I like two reformed comprehensive.  I think we should have Frisbee golf teams.

I like two reformed comprehensive—sometimes it would be good to be around 11-12 as role models.

We should still have outdoors classes because trails nearby—take advantage of location.  Want two sports teams, but only one football.

Too confusing with all the choices.  I already have trouble with choices offered at JDHS and don’t want more.

Need two football teams so we can play each other and more kids can play (Note:  the majority of the class agreed with this statement).

Like Three Facilities—gives more choice—could change if wanted to.

Want different sports at different facilities.

I think we shouldn’t spend so much extra money on landscaping—people are getting angry about this.

I like all the different choices.

I think that TMHS should be pretty, spend on it as much as you can, and make sure we have two teams, but the same sports classes.

I love the two schools choice because it is awesome that there are two sport teams.  It’s awesome.

I like Three Facilities/Multiple Choices because it gives you more of a choice, and you get to meet new people and there are no boundaries.

I like the one with more choices.  Also, I think that we should have two sports teams.  But for the swimming team, you should have a bus that goes from TMHS to JDHS.
